Upon Reflection

Upon Reflection

What a wonderful night at the NZIPP Iris Awards last night.  I was present via live stream for the magnificent gala event in Nelson.

I had some skin in the game too.  A number of my images were up for awards in a couple of categories.  I came oh so close in one category but Landscape (in camera) Photographer of the Year went to another very deserving recipient (fellow South Islander Jason Blair).  I will be the first to admit that standing in the lounge getting hugs from my daughter was all good as I may have been a touch disappointed.

But after that initial awww I started to reflect on just how lucky I am.  Eighteen months ago I was so very sick and after such a short time I am able to make work that I am proud of.  I feel lucky and plain privileged to be able to do this!   I also get to participate in this amazing competition that brings out the best in New Zealand's professional photographers.  Congratulations to the winners and finalists from last night along with all of the wonderful people recognised for their contributions to the industry.

By the way I did get a wee prize for this gold award winning image as it was the highest scoring print in the Category.  This image doesn't even have a name yet but I am looking forward to finding a way to frame it and add the finishing touches in a way that I love.
