Artwork Representation

Computer screen image vs printed artwork.

  • How artwork looks on your computer screen may be quite different to how it looks in real life as a printed work on photo paper or canvas. This is due to :
  • a) Most computer screens are not calibrated for colour and it will depend on what settings the computer has been given for contrast, saturation, hue etc. Therefore you will be seeing the colours in an image incorrectly, along with contrast & saturation.
  • b) A digital image of an artwork shown on a bright backlit LED computer screen is a completely different substrate to a stretched canvas or photo paper print, therefore colours / brightness / saturation will be different.

UV Light

  • Over time UV light will degrade any printed product & fade the inks.
  • It is important to keep the artworks out of direct sunlight as much as possible.
  • If you are concerned about colours fading it is often a good idea to choose a black & white photograph or a photograph that has muted colours as these will fade less noticably than a photo with bright colours.
