Framed Photographic Print - Noxious Creeper
At first it was just another weed — a dry, stubborn creeper working its way around a back country long drop and through the rough ground of Central Otago. It tangled itself in other plants and quietly spread where it wasn’t wanted. But looked at closely, its network of stems and tendrils begins to feel less like a plant and more like a presence. Gathered together, the fragments form a body — something insect-like, low to the ground, built to cling on and endure.
The symmetry reveals a kind of armoured back, intricately structured and unexpectedly beautiful. What starts as a pest becomes a form with design and intent, as if the land itself has assembled the creature. Noxious Creeper plays with that shift in perception — from weed to organism, from nuisance to something almost watchful — asking us to look again at what we usually try to clear away.
