Limited Edition Framed Print - Sutton’s Summer, Maniototo -  I made this work while looking out across the Maniototo Plain in the middle of summer, when everything feels dry, still, and stretched out under a wide sky. The river terraces and distant rises don’t stand out dramatically — they sit in quiet layers of tone and colour, one behind the other. The warmth in the sky, which could be dust, heat haze, or even distant smoke, adds to that sense of openness and the dry, expansive feel of the landscape.

When creating this piece, I was working very consciously in the design language of Bill Sutton. I was interested in seeing how far I could push my photographic technique while using the Maniototo landscape through that lens — simplifying the land into horizontal bands and subtle shifts of colour and proportion. Using in-camera movement helped me move away from straight description and focus more on structure, spacing, and atmosphere. For me, it’s less about a specific spot and more about how the Maniototo feels in summer — open, dry, and quietly spacious.
