Photographic Print - Gathered from Danseys Pass
I have a soft spot for things that are easily overlooked. These teasels caught my eye growing in a patch along the Danseys Pass road, and I decided they were worth a closer look. Collecting them was a rather prickly exercise, but I brought a bunch home and spent time photographing them, wanting to capture the intricate detail of their form and texture.
I wanted to take them a little way from their familiar surroundings. The soft grey and charcoal tones, with hints of gold, come from photographs of the rural landscape around home. Against this layered background, the teasels seem to float, no longer quite attached to the earth from which they grew. I rather like that sense of being suspended somewhere between the real and the imagined.
For me, this is part of the pleasure of photography: taking something ordinary, looking at it a little differently, and finding a way to share what I see. Sometimes it is worth stopping for the prickly things along the roadside.
